Today I want to share with you what I've been loving this past month. It's a mishmash of beauty products with some miscellaneous things thrown in at the end for good measure. Hope you enjoy!

1 | Daiso Cotton Pad Dispenser $2.80

The first item is not a beauty product but a makeup junkie essential - a cute as a button cotton pad dispenser. I saw them in black (shown) and pink (similar to the mirror - also from Daiso), but I have seen images online of clear ones and translucent pink ones. It's just so handy to keep your cotton pads in there with a lid so they don't get dirty and dusty. It does come with some cotton pads as well, the Daiso ones in the double pack pink boxes, though my favourite are the 'Fresh Cotton' which comes in a soft pack of 130pc.

3 | Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Dusty Pink $44 at Bobbi Brown - bit.ly/1G4spvL~

I have been loving these two colours together and on their own lately. I'm back on my cool-toned pink lipstick bandwagon after a brief detour through bright-lips town. The Art Stick also doubles as a cream blush when mixed in with a moisturiser which is great for matching your lips. It really surprised me how much I love the Art Stick because although it applied matte, it feels so comfortable and creamy on the lips. It doesn't stain so it isn't a long-wearing lip product but it does wear off nicely if you're drinking and you will need to reapply after a meal. If throughout the day I feel like some glossy pink lips then I layer the Maybelline Elixir on top. It's actually quite pigmented on its own but layered on top of the Art Stick get a completed saturated pink lip. It does have quite a florally scent which I personally don't mind but can see it driving some people up the wall. 

4 | Shu Uemura DeepSea Water Lavender Mist $56 at Fresh Fragrances and Cosmetics - bit.ly/1GeJLo3~

Not sure why but lately I've been having a little bit of trouble sleeping, which happens to me on and off quite regularly. I love using Shu Uemura's Lavender Mist lightly all over my face before I head of to snooze land. The subtle lavender scent really helps me feel relaxed and the extra hydration is always welcome.

5 | Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera $11.24 at iHerb - bit.ly/1EAOO3j~

Even though March is the beginning of Autumn, it's still quite warm here so I have been enjoying using a refreshing toner after cleansing as well as throughout the day. Some of you may have tried witch hazel before that was quite harsh but this is "Rose Petal water blended with Hazel Extract and Aloe Vera" and has no alcohol, no paragons and no propylen glycol (whatever that is..). All I know is that it makes my skin feel fresh and clean without any dryness or discomfort - although it does kind of have that old granny rose scent, you've been warned.

6 | Chanel Body Excellence and Nourishing and Rejuvenating Hand Cream $107 at Fresh Fragrances and Cosmetics - bit.ly/1GeZfsi~

This hand cream is an absolute luxury (and so it should be given the price tag). It's creamy, lightweight and sinks in immediately. It just leaves your hands feeling really soft and smelling amazing. I love ending a pamper day/night/routine with this because I can smell the 'floral-fruity' scent all day and it's divine. 

7 | Sunsilk Keratinology Advanced Reconstruction Program Overnight Treatment - Discontinued??

I started using this lately because I've been too lazy to use a hair mask when I shower. I can use this in my hair every night to keep it smooth and not feeling dry without it weighing my hair down or leaving a residue feeling. I didn't think I had the product for that long but apparently it's discontinued now.. I would love recommendation for your favourite overnight hair treatment!

8 | Alpha-H Liquid Gold with Glycolic Acid $47.37 at RY - bit.ly/1xVZZRZ~

In terms of acid exfoliators, I have always preferred Paula's Choice 2% BHA Lotion to the liquid gold as it was gentler and more suited to my skin type. However, having recently moved to a hotter and more humid climate I found that my skin was not as sensitive so I could use the Liquid Gold without any irritation. I use it about three times a week to exfoliate and smooth out the texture of my skin which seems to become more of an issue during the hotter months. 

9 | Billie Goat Soap Peach Lip Balm $5.95 - bit.ly/1C5NcaJ

I use this before I go to bed every night and I wake up with the softest lips. It smells exactly like peach candy and makes me want to eat sweets every time I smell it even though it has no fragrances and no colour, no parabens, no SLS, no 'nasties' and no animal testing. 

10 | MUA Undressed Eyeshadow Palette £4.00 at MUA - muastore.co.uk/12-shade-undressed-palette
Last but not least beauty product is the MUA Undressed Eyeshadow Palette. I used this in my Reese Witherspoon inspired GRWM [watch] so you can see it in action there. The colours are gorgeous and pigmented, so easy to apply and blend, not powdery, quite smooth and the metallic shades are just to die for. A really great, super affordable palette that will take you from day to night.

My friend recommended Scandal to me last month and I was hooked straight away. I just kept going season after season, now I'm all caught up and four seasons in, it's still as fresh as the first episode. The storylines are always new, nothing repetitive. Really recommend for anyone who is into American political drama.

You know what they say, 'out with the old, in with the new', so today I'm sharing with you my empties for March '15. Also, a pinch and a punch for the first day of the month (cos that's how mature I am) meaning this is the first post as a part of my birthday gift to you! #mgty

PRODUCTS

1 | Lush Turkish Delight Shower Smoothie $32.95 for 200g - bit.ly/1OS30I1
I love the scent of this products (I'm going to say it) even more than the famous Ro's Argan Oil. I'm not the biggest fan of pure rose scents so the added jasmine and neroli (my fave) just absolutely hits the nail on the head for me. The issue for me though is that I've used a tub of this and loved it but I still actually have no idea what it is.. like what is a shower smoothie? I've confirmed from the Lush staff that it's not a body wash (which should be used prior to this product), and it's not a body conditioner (like Ro's which should be used after this product.) So what then exactly is a shower smoothie, other than something you use in the shower that smells divine? Would I really pay $33 again for that.. not sure. What do you think?

2 | Skin Food Steam Milk Mask Cream - bit.ly/1Nwk6rx
I didn't actually finish this product but it expired at the end of last year so I decided to get rid of it. It's a very hydrating moisturiser that has been just a bit too much for even my normal/dry skin the past six months which was why it was kind of shoved to the side and forgotten about. I would probably only recommend this for people with dry/very dry skin living in harsh climates as it has quite a thick sleeping mask-like consistency that's good for locking moisture in the skin - sort of balm-like but in a cream form so it's still easy to spread over the skin.

3 | Caudalie VinoPerfect Day Perfecting Fluid SPF15 - $66.21 for 40mL - bit.ly/1DmKMvo~
This product warrants an "OMG!". It's so luxurious, smells incredibly delicious and awakening which is important for a day cream. It's super lightweight yet insanely hydrating with SPF 15 that I would recommend for all skin types. While you can't see any different as it sinks in and disappears immediately, you can definitely feel your skin drinking up that hydration. I've already started saving so I can pick up a full size of this for summer next year as this does cost a pretty penny.

4 | Juju Cosmetics Aquamoist Moisture Milk - discontinued? (Couldn't find any information in English)
This I also didn't finish and wasn't a big fan of for the opposite reason to the Skin Food Cream. The moisture milk was very liquidy (makes sense) so it really just spread out to nothing and didn't really do much.

5 | Bioderma Sensibio Micelle Solution Sensitive Skin $31.99 for 500mL - bit.ly/1DmYlen~
I got a tiny sample of this a while ago in a beauty box and just used it up when I went to Melbourne. Love Bioderma for lazy makeup removal and have a 500mL bottle sitting on my drawer for such occasions. I really want to try the blue one though for sensitive dehydrated skin.

6 | My Beauty Diary Collagen Firming Mask $15.50 for 10 - bit.ly/1BZ3u55~
I was clearly having a lazy sheet mask month as I only have one empty to share with you. This one I received a while ago as a sample to try with a YesStyle order I believe. I love My Beauty Diary masks and I had never tried this one but I quite liked it and would consider repurchasing if I was ever running low on sheet masks (highly doubt that will ever happen though.. >.<").

7 | Daiso Triangle Brow Pencil $2.80
I am the exact opposite of a brow product snob. I picked this up because I thought the triangle shape was quite interesting so I gave it a go and I quite like it, which basically means that it's a somewhat dark brown colour and doesn't migrate to my forehead when I brush my brows out. They're really the only two requirements of a brow product for me. I have quite thick, full brows already so I just need something to fill them in a bit and define the ends. The brush at the other end is also quite handy. Stock tends to come and go at Daiso so if I ever see these, I always pick one up for backup.

8 | Big W Makeup Remover Pads $2 for 200
These are soft (not like a baby's bum but soft enough), don't break up when I'm trying to remove my makeup or apply toner and they're cheap as chips. What more can I say. Always pick these up when I can't get to a Daiso to pick up my favourite cotton pads. They're just so easily accessible and affordable - can literally be bought with the change found under your car seat.

9 | Oral-B 3D White Toothpaste $9.49 for 130g - bit.ly/1IL51lc~
Picked these up as a triple pack from Costco and we're onto our last tube. Not much to say other than the fact that it's not super minty tasting toothpaste and didn't notice any whitening effects.

10 | SK-II Facial Treatment Essence $99 for 75mL + 1 Mask + 30mL Clear Lotion - bit.ly/1xuoxkH~
My holy grail product, I will never be without this. Already onto a 215mL bottle, however I'm doing a showdown of the facial essences I have tried so for the last few weeks I have been using the Shiseido Eurdermine Revitalising Essence.

My Fortnight Face - #FOTF #1

I'm starting a new blog series called The Fortnight Face to try and force myself to rotate the makeup products that I use on a daily basis and make sure that nothing goes to waste or forgotten and also remind myself to try new products that I've hauled because I have a very bad habit (and people who know me IRL actually know this about me) that I get super excited when I buy stuff, I take it home, swatch it, put it back in its box and it'll sit there for some time.. until I force myself away from what I'm familiar with to try the new products. I'm a Taurus so we don't like change and I'll often have conflicts with the makeup addict/hoarder side of me..

So for the past two weeks I have been trying out the products above, listed below. Some are oldies (as you can tell by the pan) and some are new. I'll give a mini review on what I think about them and if they will remain in my next fortnightly face routine or if they have been eliminated.. but may be brought back as a wild card. (I Obviously watch too much reality tv..)

- Kosmea Replenishing Moisture Cream - 3/5 - [link]
I like to use a moisturiser before I apply my makeup, even though I already use a moisturiser as part of my skincare routine because my normal/dry skin will just absorb my foundation if I don't. This was a good product for this purpose but not enough hydration for me to use as just a moisturiser. Finished this so it's sitting in my Empties bin at the moment.

- MAC Prep + Prime Face Protect Protection Visage SPF 50 - 4/5 - [link]
I really noticed the benefit of using a primer with this product. One day I was totally late and didn't use this and my base all around my mouth and where my glasses sat had just disappeared. Of course the SPF 50 is a great bonus. Definitely going to the next round..until I get bored of it.

- Urban Decay Primer Potion - 4/5 - [link]
(Not shown) because it is so grungy looking. All the purple colour on the outside had disintegrated and it was on its way out so another one in the Empties bin. It was a great lid primer, lasted me a looong time and it really did stop shadows from creasing and fading.

- NYX 10 Colour Eyeshadow Palette: Bubbles & Caviar - 3.5/5 -
Simple, affordable, versatile neutral palette which is unfortunately discontinued now but they have so many new palettes I'm sure you can find something similar. I change my shadows regularly (even though they're the same colours..) so moving on.

- Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal: 012 Bronze - 3.5/5 - [review - link]
Really great pencil liner, especially for tightlining and smudging but once it sets, it won't budge. Read my review to see the proof! Liked it but I'm bored, moving onto something else for the next two weeks.

- Revlon PhotoReady Concealer 003 - 4.5/5 - [link]
Probably my favourite concealer and the only one I have a back up for. I think it's for under the eyes which is what I mainly use it for but I'll still use it on redness and spots. Super creamy, blendable, non-creasing and this colour is very yellow and a touch too dark for me which really helps to cover the darkness under the eyes when blended out. Trying out a new concealer palette for the next two weeks and stay tuned for a review ;)

- Australis Makeup Finishing Spritz - 3.5/5 - [link]
Basic makeup spray that I use to slightly moisten my brush/sponge to help blend foundation and after application just to avoid powder face. I have about a quarter left so I'll keep using this until I'm done.

- Etude House BB Cream Bright Fit W13- 3/5 - [link]
I'm very on the fence about the two Etude House BB creams I have tried. I won't get into it here but this one had good coverage with a satin finish which I really liked but the lasting power was not good at all without a primer and it may have clogged my pores a little bit. I'm going to try a foundation again for two weeks and see how I go.

- Lacura Minerals Powder: Transparent - 3.5/5 -
I picked this up from Aldi a while ago recommended by my mum and I actually really like it except it's really messy because the packaging isn't great so you could never take it with you. It really sets my makeup so it's smooth to touch and there are tiny tiny shimmer particles that you can't see on the skin but just reflects light to blur imperfections. Definitely staying in the routine (although I do have tonnes of powder I need to use..)

- Milani Baked Blush: 08 Coralina - 3.5/5 - [link]
This blush is my way of holding on summer.. I place it just above my bronzer and blend it in so it's like a bronzy coral that's not that bright. It's also super shimmery but most of the shimmer falls away so it's not that scary. Love it but I will be delving into my cream blushes in the next few weeks.

I've loved this since Emily Noel first raved about it and I was so excited when I hit pan but I'll be using some different bronzers in the following weeks to compare and maybe hit pan on them too! It's a really great matte bronzer for contouring and versatile too because I often use the colours in my crease.

- Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless: 001 Black - 4.5/5 [link]
Absolutely love this mascara, creates the appearance of a million lashes and of course gives length. I really need to do a review and compare this with my current HG, Maybelline Falsies. I'll be trying out a different mascara in the next few weeks.

- Daiso Styling Eyebrow Pencil - 2.5/5 -
I really like Daiso eyebrow pencils because they're just super affordable. I wanted to try a grey one because sometimes brown warms can come up too warm for my black hair but I felt like this was maybe too grey if I used too much product.. like I had ageing eyebrows. So I'll finish it but I won't repurchase.

- L.A Colors Auto Lip Liner: Mauve - 3/5 - [link]
I'm using this because I lost the lid.. as I do with so many of my products.. It's like a mauvy mlbb colour which works well with nude/mauve/pinky neutral lipsticks so it's fairly versatile and great for winter.

- NYX Round Lipstick: Summer Love - 3/5 - [link]
A nude lipstick that doesn't make you look dead is my kind of lipstick. Really getting back into the nudes lately and this one has a bit of shimmer to add some dimension.

- NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss: Sweet Heart - 3.5/5 - [link]
Finally I topped it off with a lipgloss for some extra shine and this one smells lovely and is super pigmented and creamy so you could actually wear it by itself.

Review: Daiso Brush Cleanser

Daiso Sponge and Puff detergent is just one of the amazing things at the Japanese discount store. If you're not familiar, Daiso is a Japanese store where everything is AU$2.80. A lot of the things are awesome, most of the things you didn't even know you needed or existed and some of things don't quite cut it. So why is this brush cleanser so great? Because it cleans your brushes so well and effortlessly and leaves no residue what so ever. Let me explain..

How I use this:

1. Pour a small amount of product onto the dirty dry brush. Work this product into the brush until it's covered all the bristles.

2. Remove the excess product by squeezing the brush and you will notice your makeup coming off.

3. Create some foam by rinsing the brush with water and keep rinsing and squeezing out the product until you get clean running water.

Image 4 shows the difference between a dirty and clean brush. The clean brush doesn't feel oily, doesn't smell funny, doesn't dry stiff or seem to damage the bristles. 

I have also used this on puffs and more recently on sponges as I am discovering the amazing world of sponges for foundation application (another Daiso gem, but more about that on another post). It is especially good for sponges as I can work the product into the sponge with my fingers. Create some foam and rinse the sponge clean until the water was no longer frothy. Squeeze it dry with a towel and it can be used straight away. I imagine this would be perfect for the Beauty Blender but I don't actually own one (although everyone tells me I must) so I wouldn't know. 

Trust me guys, if you have a Daiso near you, run out and grab it. (I know lots of people have discovered this product already!)

Skincare Routine - Winter '13 // Skincare Sunday #2

If you've read my latest TalkBack Thursday (#2) post, you'll know that I've discovered two products which I believe has been keeping my skin clear lately. So, I'm going to share with you my current skincare routine for Winter 2013. Hope you enjoy!

Note: I started doing this exact routine two weeks ago when it started getting very cold and my skin got very dry and flaky. I have been using the majority of these products for two months, I just switched out my toners two weeks ago.

MORNING ROUTINE
Cleanse | Sorbolene + warmish micro-fibre cloth ( not shown as I had people over and they were already giving me weird looks when I started lining up my skincare products...)
Tone to remove | LUSH Tea Tree Water on a Daiso Cotton Pad
(I used to use Witch Hazel Toner)

REVIEW
Love using Sorbolene in the morning as it's super gentle while the cloth provides some very mild exfoliation (dry flaky skin be gone!) LUSH Tea Tree Water is more gentler than Witch Hazel but still feels refreshing. Just started using SK-II and my skin might be firmer.. but we'll have to see if there are any real results. I have reviews on the Aphelia products *: here. I discovered LUSH Celestial last year when I moved to Melbourne in the middle of Winter and my skin freaked out by being super dry, sensitive, itchy and red. Celestial is perfect for anyone which sensitive and irritated skin. It just covers and smooths over your dry patches to really calm them down. It is a bit on the thick side and doesn't sink in super quickly but it really is for skin that is dehydrated and irritated. It smells to me like vanilla ice cream (:

The two products I believe that have truly done wonders for my skin and stopped my breakouts are ... Michael Todd Honey & Oat Gentle Deep Pore Cleanser + Rosehip Oil. They are the only two products that I started using when my breakouts stopped and I have never tried them before. Of course, it could be the routine as a whole but as soon as I started using the Rosehip Oil, my skin felt different immediately. From that first day, my breakouts stopped and I just felt like my skin was being nourished and treated with kindness (sounds strange but that's just how I personally felt). Not sure exactly what was happening on a cellular level, on a medical perspective but I can only say what I saw and what my skin felt like.

Michel Todd's Honey & Oat Cleanser just leaves your skin feeling super smooth, especially used with my Clarisonic. It removes all traces of makeup, doesn't dry out your skin and uses organic ingredients. I didn't want to believe the hype. I heard all the sponsored reviews but this is the first MT product that I've tried (purchased 100% by yours truly) and I really really like it. I have picked up a whole lot more products from the website and Ozsale and I can't wait to start trying everything.

Q: Spend or save?

With a growing number of budget brands releasing drugstore/high-end equivalent products it should be harder to companies to justify their ridiculous markups for branding or packaging. Of course, we will still buy these high-end products because that's how marketing works but do we really need to if the generic stuff is the same 'stuff' with a different label?

Budget dupes are nothing new but I'm thinking of one store in particular who are really growing their range of products which look and sound similar to their branded equivalents: Aldi. (This is not an ad for them; they're just really good for recently graduated single-income households aka moi.)

They have everything from food to household stuff to express coffee machines, but I don't care about any of that. What I'm interested in is their hair/skincare and makeup range. To be honest, I have never tried their makeup as the testers are always broken or missing but I have tried their serums before upon the recommendation of the Beauty Advisers at my previous work and I was pleasantly surprised. I tried the blue hydrating one and it kept my skin moisturised without breaking me out! Which is perhaps the single most important thing when it comes to generic products.

Their eye creams have also been loved my mum and aunt. I'm using their coconut body wash at the moment and it smells like coconut without being overly sweet and artificial. My boyfriend loves their haircare but I refuse to stray from my Head & Shoulders however they have recently released some Moroccan Argan Oil products which somewhat resembles the Organix Moroccan Argan Oil range but at about a quarter of the price. This is something I definitely have to get my hands on and I'll keep you updated.

Another budget store that's making waves in my world is Daiso. (Also not an ad; just cute Japanese stuff for $2.80 really float my boat.) Apart from the fact that everything in there is absolutely adorable (if you're going to the Melbourne CBD store, you should probably allocate an hour of your time) their mascaras are absolutely AMAZING! They do exactly as they say (but nothing more) so the High Curling Mascara will curl like nothing else, won't budge but it's not waterproof so you can still take it off. The Fiber Mascara has visible fibers which really add length to your lashes, also won't budge and great for layering. Their eyeliners have good formula but the brushes take some time to get used to. Haven't tried their face makeup and their blushers and eyeshadows come in only very basic colours which I already have about a thousand of so I didn't pick up any but they'll probably be great for beginners.

Don't get me wrong, I still get sucked in by Kate Blanchett and SK-II, especially after watching the Hobbit and her ethereal skin but it's nice to know that if I ever get over my beauty snobbery, there are cheaper alternatives I can turn to.
